Conceptualised by Akanani x Andile Dyalvane, the bar will be an immersive experience.
Having met on the CPUT lecture circuit in Cape Town, Akanani’s Amanda Msimang and Lynette Thabo formed a bond that was rooted in their mutual love for art and design.
Over the space of 2 years, Msimang (a qualified interior designer) and Thabo (a qualified architectural technologist) have partnered on various design and architectural projects. These partnerships have culminated in the launch of their design offering ‘Akanani’, a Shangaan word meaning “let us build together”.
Since creative minds often attract one another, it’s no surprise that the Akanani duo is friends with celebrated South African artist and ceramicist Andile Dyalvane.
In an exciting new collaboration between Dyalvane and Design Joburg lead sponsor Sanlam Private Wealth, his work will take centre stage at the champagne bar hosted by Sanlam Private Wealth. The space will be designed by Msimang and Thabo and will mark the duo’s maiden project under the Akanani brand.
Whilst Steenberg will be serving their lauded Cap Classiques, Dyalvane’s ceramics will form an integral part of the inspiration for the bar’s aesthetic. The whole experience is intended to immerse visitors by engaging all the senses, while forging luxury design with traditional craftsmanship.
The love of art, design and even music, is what brought these three local talents together, it’s their dedication to hard work, perseverance and meaningful design that will yield a fruitful collaboration at Design Joburg 2020
